We are the Church

Growing in Christian faith is a vital part of Starrsville UMC's ministry. From Sunday School classes for all ages to our in-depth Bible Study group on Thursday evenings to our Monday morning Prayer Group, we provide multiple ways for people to grow in faith as we seek to learn more about God and how he wants us to live in relationship with Him and our neighbors.

Thursday Night bible study

This group meets at members' homes on Thursday evenings at 7:00 from September through May for an in-depth study of the biblical scriptures. We usually take a chapter or two per night and study verse by verse. Through open discussion we explore God's Word, finding its tremendous relevance to our daily lives. Over the years we have studied the majority of the New Testament and several books in the Old Testament. This fall we will begin a study on 1st and 2nd Corinthians.

Men's Club

Our men meet monthly from September through May for Breakfast, usually on the third Sunday of the month at 8:00. We enjoy a hearty breakfast, great fellowship and often a spiritual or mission based program. In addition, we sponsor other activities throughout the year, including mission projects and cooking hot dogs for the children's Trunk-or-Treat event.

Youth Group

Our Youth meet regularly in our Youth House located across the street form the Church. Youth enjoy this space with a number of games set up just for them. During the school year we meet regularly from 4:00 to 5:30, except on holiday weekends. We participate in several missions projects each year that range from sponsoring a child through Compassion International to the annual Food Drive with the Missions Committee to collect food to benefit the Newton County Salvation Army. In addition, the youth have many fun outings throughout the year and during the summer, such as swimming parties, bowling, going out to eat and going to Six Flags Over Georgia. Most importantly, we have our lesson time at our regular meetings, where we learn more about how to serve God and live a Christian life in the midst of a world that seemingly seeks to draw young people away from God.

Starrsville UMC is committed to reaching families with children. We provide a nursery for small children during both Sunday School and Worship each Sunday with a professional staff member. In addition, we have a number of seasonal children's activities throughout the year, including Trunk-or-Treat, a visit from Santa at our Church Christmas Dinner, an Easter Egg Hunt, and more.

Joy Group

The JOY Group is our ladies group here at Starrsville UMC. The goal of JOY is help women feel like they have a say in the activities we do. Each month we assign a Group Leader who will take the initiative to begin organizing an event. For the month of July this was a church wide Pizza Supper, followed by the performance of our very own, Starrsville Four. Our ventures vary, but the group loves the various bits of time we get to spend together in fellowship. We encourage guests to join us in fellowship!

Previous events the Joy Group has organized include: Movie nights, house warming showers, self-defense training, game nights, group pottery, painting, helping with church events, listening to guest speakers, tea time, and feeding the homeless.

Missions & OUtreach

Starrsville is a mission minded church. We currently support two missionary families, five local ministries. and are always seeking out new ways we can support others in need.

The five local ministries we currently support include, East Newton Elementary School, Newton County Salvation Army, Rainbow Homeless Ministries, FaithWorks, and Action Ministries. In addition to these few ministries we support more than a dozen more ministries with our giving, time, and prayers.

We do not want anyone to feel left out at Starrsville UMC. Wherever your passion may lie, we want to help find a place where you can serve as you respond to the unique call God has placed on your heart.
